Bio

Mariusz Kozieł started his organ studies in 2017 at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (Poland) in prof. Witold Zaborny’s class. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in 2020 and in 2022 a master’s degree diploma with distinction in Krzysztof Lukas’ organ class. In September 2024 Mariusz Kozieł began his studies in Codarts in Rotterdam in prof. Zuzana Ferjenčíková’s organ class. In addition he developed his skills during organ interpretation and improvisation masterclasses, among others with Franz Danksagmüller, Pieter van Dijk, Thierry Escaich, Julian Gembalski, Lorenzo Ghielmi, Thomas Lacôte, Giampaolo di Rosa and Daniel Roth.

From September, due to winning the competition, Mariusz will take up the position of Junior Organist-in-Residence at the Pieterskerk in Leiden.

He took part in many organ competitions. His notable achievements include: 3rd prize at the Rijnmond Muziekprijs in Rhoon (The Netherlands) in March 2025, 1st prize at the Improvisation Competition during the 21st Petr Eben International Organ Competition in Opava (Czech Republic) in 2022, 2nd prize at the Interpretation Competition during the 11th Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck International Organ Music Competition in Gdańsk (Poland) in 2021, 3rd prize during the 7th Academic Organ Competition Romuald Sroczyński in memoriam in Poznań (Poland) in 2020 and 1st prize during the Organ Music Competition at the 30th International Religious Music Festival in Rumia (Poland) in 2018.

In 2025, he was awarded the prestigious 'Młoda Polska’ scholarship, granted by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

As a member of Colloque des Claviers ensemble, along with Aleksandra Gawrońska-Kozieł he performs in instrumental combinations which cover the entire keyboard instruments spectrum, including Organ Duet, Piano Duet and Piano & Organ. In 2022 they won 1st prize during the Concours Gaston Litaize 2022 in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés in France, 4th prize during the International BTHVN Wien Competition 2022 in category “ensemble” and in 2021 they won 1st prize in category “ensemble” during The 5th International Moscow Music Competition. 

Apart from performing activities, Mariusz is also a composer. His pieces have won awards, e.g. during the 6th Polish Composition Competition in Wejherowo in 2019 (1st prize) and during the 5th International Composition Competition Fide et Amore in Żory (Poland) in 2020 (distinction diploma). The first publication of his pieces is currently in preparation.
